It uses ISNet, the same class of model behind popular commercial cutouts. For clean subjects (people, products) results are very comparable. Complex hair/fur may still favour paid services.

Why does the first run take a while?

The AI model (~40-80 MB) downloads once and gets cached — every subsequent run is fast.

Is WebGPU required?

Accepted Answer

No — if your browser doesn't support WebGPU we automatically fall back to WebAssembly. WebGPU is ~5-10× faster, but WASM still gets the job done in a few seconds.

What image formats are supported?

JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, and GIF (first frame). Output is transparent PNG by default; you can also composite onto white, black, or any custom color.
